Washington State - Succession Plans

A Succession Plan is part of the Disaster Recovery Business Resumption policy stack. Washington State examiners will call your policy deficient if you do not customize it to match your business.

Last updated on 04 Nov, 2025

Our disaster recovery plan is designed to cover businesses of all sizes; however, recently, WA State Examiners have begun calling out plans that do not match the institution's size and scope. For instance, we have a template of duties that need to be considered in the resumption plan. The idea is that there may be ONE PERSON who has all these roles. Or, these roles may be held by several individuals. In a larger company, these roles might ALL be held by different people.

The point is, as with all plans, you should USE them. If they don't match your business, adjust them when it comes to your attention. You should never simply send something "Off-the-Shelf" to a regulator during an examination.
